Need for the Project
The majority of Textile industries have their own effluent treatment plant and after treating the waste they were discharging the effluent in open gutter. The treatment efficiency of individual ETP’s are also poor. Also treatment cost is not affordable to these industries. The domestic as well as industries effluents city area goes to Kala Nalla, nalla behind Niramay Hospital , and Industrial estate Nalla and Chandur Nalla by means open gutters. These nalla finally meets Panchaganga River.
The 12 MLD CETP is helping to treat the Textile effluent, which was directly disposed in nalla and gutter with or without treatment .The nalla finally meets to Panchganga River. The Panchaganga River is included counted amongst topmost polluted river in the country . The Panchganga River is included in National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) to improve the water quality of the rivers. The river is classified as A2, as per the RRZ policy of Maharashtra State. The river quality is not as per the river classification A2 and bacterial contamination is also increased.
There are number of existing rural water supply schemes on Panchganga River, downstream of the Ichalkaranji city which got affected due to River pollutions Now a day’s river water is used only irrigation purpose. The Ichalkaranji gets water supply from the Krishna River. Ichalkaranji and its neighboring areas are facing server water borne diseases like due to the disposal of Industrial effluents and Sewage from Ichalkaranji Municipal council and Kolhapur Municipal corporation in Panchganga River. The 12 MLD CETP will help to reduce the some pollution load Panchganga River.
Project Category
All the CETP units are Lister at Serial no. 7(h) of the Schedule of EIA Notification of 14-09-2006 and categorized under Category ‘B’ and requires an Environmental Clearance.
The Purpose of this Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) study is to provide information on the surrounding and the extent of environmental impact likely to arise on account of the proposed expansion.
